If you are like me, you have Reggie Bush in one of your fantasy leagues. Being one of the top producing Fantasy Football RB this year, it would be quite a blow to any team owner so either may or may not have an adequate backup that would be a solid play week in and week out. However, there may be some good options out there right now that could help so up your team in this current situation. Let’s break down some possible available plays and pick-ups given the state of the NFL without Reggie Bush.
Fantasy Football RB Waiver Options:
1. Duece McAllister – If he is not already owned at this point then grab him, but Pierre Thomas could factor into the mix as well and he could recieve more from the backfield. If you are in a points for receiver, but not for carry leagues then Thomas may be the better play. However, baring any injuries Duece should see the bulk of the carries. My projections could be aboult a 18-22 to 6-10 split in carries, but Thomas may have more receptions as he may be the more versatile and Bush-like in the group.
2. Cedric Benson – He just got the starting job in Cincy, and granted there isn’t much going on there, but if you are in a carry league, he will see the bulk of the work as well as the goal-line. He has broken off the longest run from any back against the Steelers this year, and he is producing around a full point higher in average yards per carry. He should be a decent start for the next few weeks or even till the end of the season once more news is heard about Bush’s status. The downside is that it is Cincy and there offense hasn’t been moving the ball well this year.
3. Sammy Morris – I still have some reservations about Morris. He is getting a good number of carries and has been most of the year, but the gray-sweater wearing general there always seems to work different backs into the lineup and they have a deep corps of backs that can step up at any tme. However, Morris has been getting consistent carries and also receives out of the backfield as well as has TDs in 4 of their 6 games played.
Fantasy Sports Recommendation: In the end I wound up going with Sammy Morris, but he may not be available in all leagues, so the other options would be a good play, as well as Justin Fargas, Maurice Morris, and Jonathan Stewart.
Ok, I’m big enough to admin when I’m wrong, and yes I was wrong about Sammy Morris. With Morris getting injured he is now out of the loop and Kevin Faulk could be a valuable fantasy play until one of the starting backs return.
Possibly Lamont Jordan will factor into some good touches as well so it looks to be a toss up at this point and there may be a better play elsewhere.
Further update on the New England Running Back situation. After consideration and review I wound up pick up the rookie Green-Ellis. He took over for Morris when he went out of the game and with Jordan missing practice after making the day before signals a possible setback. This means that Green-Ellis should get a good bulk of the carries, and he is rush for a TD in the second half. This could be another 15/80/1 type of game against the soft rushing defense of St. Louis. Faulk is mostly a 3 down back and hasn’t average more than a half of dozen carries per game all year. I would go with the rookie here, and I did.
