OK, so I’m trying to figure out why week 9 seems so tricky to manage in every one of my leagues but one. Then it hits me… the one where my team sucks doesn’t matter. But for the others… this week’s bye teams can cause havoc to some of the top teams. I mean… Brees, Rivers, Gore, Tomlinson… 4 of the top 10 players in the league in one week! And check this… I have three of these guys on ONE team. Ouch. The throw in DeAngelo Williams, Steve Smith, Vincent Jackson, Antonio Gates and Isaac Bruce and you got yourself an upset in the making. Oh, and then Redskins vs Steelers. And NY Giants vs. Dallas? Ouch again.
The Commish has some good advice on players to grab in this tough bye week so read his blog. Here’s a few of the Critic’s fill-in favs:
He gets to start, has a hot QB, and plays a soft Lions Defense. Oh and he’s only starting in 2% of Yahoo Leagues…
A consistent TE meets a team that has given up 13 TDs. I’m thinking he might be a good play…
Atlanta Defense
I know what your thinking… huh? Don’t they kinda suck? Um, yeah. But they get to play the penalty prone Raiders this week. If you need a fill-in for one week for the SD, Carolina, or Saints Defense… they might just do the trick. You can thank me later!
This one is for those deep leagues… but why not capitalize on the hot Rams with a guy who at least gets you some return yards and is due for a long TD catch. Could be his week, right?
I’m so looking forward to week 9 being over. I need my boys back in the starting lineup, you know? But hey, at least I have the one bad team… could I be the guy who gets the good side of the upset? Maybe. But who am I to think I know what’s going to happen Sunday? I’m not the expert, I’m the Critic.
The Critic
I like Davis, he has been on my watch list for a couple of weeks. He is getting consistent looks every week and has the ability to make big plays. I think he will be a good addition for any team on a bye week.
Nice picks! Another player I like this week if you’re in a tight spot for a one-week QB is the Vikings’ Gus Frerotte. At a glance it looks like this guy has a ton of interceptions. However, he’s thrown one or less interceptions in all games except one: Week 7 Vikings at Chicago (he had 4 interceptions). Let’s face it, it was an away game and a super tough match-up. His upside: he has scored at least one TD in every game, except one, averages about 250 yards a game, and has some decent wide outs in Bernard Berrian and Sidney Rice. This week he is playing against Houston’s middle-of-the-road pass defense.
Highly appealing. Keep those reports coming.
