Week 3 Running Back Starts and Sits

The word of week 3 for running backs is security.  Their job security is built on ball security.  Guys like David Wilson know that all too well.  They get such a tough time for losing the ball that they wind up not playing the way they should because they are worried about losing their job.  It’s not good for running backs to feel like they have to watch their every step in order to keep their jobs.

In the NFL there are really good players on both sides of the ball making plays and sometimes it’s not the running backs fault that the other player just made a great play.  It happens.  All of the great running backs have lost a couple of balls, but if they thought that they were going to lose their job every time that happened then they might have ran differently.

With injuries to some bigger name running backs we look to the back-ups and under-performers in week 3 to see if they can finally redeem themselves and help the fantasy roster.

Here are the must starts for running backs in week 3 fantasy football in the RB1 or RB2 position.

  • Marshawn Lynch – Beastmode is going wild this week.
  • Adrian Peterson – There is no other offensive weapon.
  • Doug Martin – He is going to break lose and gets a lot of work.
  • CJ Spiller – Making plays and getting opportunities.
  • Alfred Morris – Seeing the ball a lot but needs to find more lanes.
  • Matt Forte – There is so much to like, especially in PPR.
  • Knowshon Moreno – Has the trust of Manning.
  • Chris Johnson – He should fine plenty of holes.
  • Demarco Murray – He is their workhorse.
  • Frank Gore – Should see the end-zone this week.
  • Lamar Miller – Follow-up performance would be nice.
  • Benard Pierce – Going to get the start and carry the load.
  • Joique Bell – Bush or not, there will be plenty to go around.

The next group of running backs would be good RB2 positions and solid flex plays for week 3.

  • Arian Foster – The match-up is not that favorable.
  • DeAngelo Williams – Gets the bulk of the carries.
  • James Starks – The only back they’ve got.
  • Steven Ridley – One of Tom’s reliable weapons.
  • Ryan Matthews – Gets a lot of work when they aren’t passing.
  • Trent Richardson – Should see double digit carries.
  • Rashard Mendenhall – Running hard on the field.
  • Darren McFadden – Sees a lot of work but not a good match-up.
  • Darren Sproles – Not a good match-up but does a lot of stuff.
  • David Wilson – All of the owners are hoping this will be the week. Fingers crossed.

The next group of running backs would be decent RB2 at best or maybe a flex play in week 3.

If you have on of the guys above it would be better to go with them instead. However, these backs should see the field a lot and could make some plays out of it. They worth a play in deeper leagues or based on position options.
