Week 5 Fantasy 911

There are plenty of injuries that are concerning fantasy football owners in week 5, as well as helping some fantasy owners that are savvy enough to snatch up these spot start gems.  Plus, the return of some fantasy players could help resurrect teams that were once thought to be lacking in depth. Let’s take a look around the league and go over the players that are subject to fantasy football leagues in week 5.

Starting off with the running backs, there are the Fantasy 911 for week 5.

  • Steven Ridley – Is out for week 5, which means that Legarrette Blount will see a little more opportunities in week 5. Fantasy owners should be aware that Blount will most likely start the game and see the bulk of the carries. He should be picked up this week and played as a RB1 in all league formats.
  • Darren McFadden – Fantasy owners must have to take a lot of pain killers to own runDMC because he can really give’em headaches. He is listed as doubtful for week 5 and will most likely not play.   Backup Marcel Reece is also questionable so that means that Rashad Jennings will get the call and see the bulk of the carries in a late Sunday night game.
  • James Starks  – Listed out for week 5, but that is good for Eddie Lacy owners who are happy to see his return back to full duty. Sidelined since week 1, Lacy has been poised to take over and fantasy owners should feel confident playing him in this week as a RB2 he will see the bulk of the carries. Granted, it might not be that much this week as they are probably going in the air a lot, but he should be able to make due with what he gets.
  • Ahmad Bradshaw – Out for week 5 and that means once again Trent Richardson and Donald Brown will carry the load for the Colts. Richardson will be the better play as he is the clear goal-line back in the offense, but Brown could be a nice play in deeper leagues as a flex option.
  • Steven Jackson – Once again out for week 5. Fantasy owners should have seen this coming when they drafted this old man. Sorry, but in the fantasy world it is hard to be durable at this position and the history of injuries just spells trouble.

Going into week 5 there are some fantasy wide receivers that are needing some attention.

  • Lance Moore – Out for week 5. Brees will continue to go to Jimmy and Darren so it doesn’t matter much. You shouldn’t start people just because they are on explosive offensives, unless it’s the Broncos.
  • Danny Amendola – Fantasy owners are just salivating at the thought of his return. The explosive start that he had in week 1 made fantasy owners really happy about where they drafted him, but not playing since that week has left them feeling a little down on their top pick. He made the trip this week so he could play, but it’s a game-time decision and there is no telling at this point, but if he goes, start him. He is a WR2 in most formats and in PPR leagues he is a WR1 for sure.
  • Kenbrell Thompkins – He is also listed as questionable on the same team. These are two of the most targeted guys on the team so I’d expect Brady to have if not one, but hopefully both on the field. If Kenbrell is starting then he is worth a WR2 or flex play.
  • Marlon Brown and Jacoby Jones – They are both limited in practice and questionable in week 5. It would be a surprise if at least one of these guys don’t go this week. Jones hasn’t played since the week 1 opener, but was showing some flashes of a great fantasy option, while Brown has came in for Jones and has produced some decent fantasy numbers.  If Jones is able to play, that would lower the value of Brown, as Jones would retake his place ahead of Brown in the depth chart.  Jones also has return yards so he becomes even more valuable in leagues where they offer those points.

Other notable injuries around the league for week 5.

  • Terrelle Pryor – Is ready to go in week 5 after missing last week following a concussion he suffered in week 3. This is great news for fantasy owners that had him as an option for their backups like RG3 and others this week. He will make a decent option for QB and should find a way to produce some good points against a huge opponent that can put up numbers in the offense.
  • Ron Gronkowski – Didn’t make the trip and will not play in week 5. It’s a shame for fantasy owners that were hoping to have him back by now. Where most people got him at it would have made a lot more sense to have him before the quarter point.
