Week 8 Hot Off The Wire

With so many injuries to key fantasy players, plus bye weeks, there will be plenty of fantasy owners on the waiver wire for week 8. It looks like there might even be some help out there on the wire to get fantasy teams some points. Let’s take a look at the fantasy football waiver wire to see who is going to be Hot Off the Wire for week 8 and what they mean to fantasy teams.

Top fantasy football waiver wire pickups for week 8.

  • Darrius Heyward-Bey – The injury to Reggie Wayne leaves a huge hole to fill and Darrius is up for the challenge. He was already starting to turn it on over the past couple of games and show flashes of what he can do with his speed.  Now he is going to get more opportunities going forward and should be able to make plays.  Look for them to try to get him the ball in open space and make plays with his feet down the field. He should be a good WR2 option for most leagues for the rest of the year.
  • Mike James – With Doug Martin going down, James stepped in and was able to carry the load for the Bucs. He looks like the clear back to own at this point and would be a decent option for fantasy owners. He will be even more valuable for PPR leagues as he can catch out of the backfield well.  He would be a low-end RB2 for most leagues going forward until other news develops.
  • Jarrett Boykin – He is indeed filling in where Randall Cobb left off. Following the injury to Cobb the week before, Boykin had a career day posting up over 100 yards receiving with 8 grabs on targets. It was a great performance for him and shows what he is capable of. Look for him to continue to be apart of that high-powered offense and could put up regular fantasy points like Cobb. He is considered a good WR2 start.
  • Peyton Hillis – After getting the start for the Giants because Brandon Jacobs was unable to go, Hillis only rushed for 36 yards, but did managed to score a touchdown. He would be a risky option for fantasy owners because Jacobs will be healthy and would take some carries, as well as Wilson and Brown, who are both due back by week 10.  It’s doesn’t look like he is going to be much of an option down the stretch so if Jacobs doesn’t go again next week, he would be a good spot start as RB2 for deeper leagues or flex.
  • Chris Ivory – The wire will be fired up over this guy. He carried the rock 34 times in week 7 and is clearly showing no times of the injury that has slowed him in the early part of the year. With this kind of production, he now becomes the back to own for the Jets and would be a good RB2 option for most weeks and every week for leagues that give points per carry.
  • Roy Helu – What can I say. Lucifer is notorious for this stuff. Just when owners were hoping Morris will be rolling along the rest of the year, Helu comes in and grabs 3 rushing touchdowns in week 8. It’s not that Morris wasn’t out there as he did carry the ball, but Helu has been earning himself more playing time and it looks like that is paying off in the way of touchdowns. Morris will continue to be the every down back for most of the game and get the bulk of the carries, but Helu is quietly making himself a good bye week option in deeper leagues or a flex option on good match-ups.
