Week 10 Hot Off The Wire

With the last big bye week passing in week 9, there will only be a couple of more byes before the end of the fantasy football season and leagues head into the playoffs.  Owners need to start thinking about what their match-ups look like down the stretch and into the playoffs.  Plus, with injuries to huge name players like Aaron Rodgers and Darren McFadden, grabbing guys off the wire now could help teams both now and later.  Some players just have better match-ups in crucial weeks that teams could benefit from and start a player with a better match-up or more opportunities.  With this in mind, we take a look at the players that will be Hot Off The Wire for week 10 and could help teams into the playoffs.

Top fantasy football waiver wire pickups for week 10.

  • Rashad Jennings – He stepped in for yet again injured DMC. This time to the tune of a 100 yard game.  With McFadden’s status always in question, it’s a good handcuff to have and if there is a word that runDMC is not able to go, then Jennings would be a good option at RB2 or flex.
  • Nick Foles – It’s easy to see why people are adding him, but keep in mind when Vick returns Foles will be the backup once again. This is only a short time play and won’t be something to count on into the playoffs, but given that fact that some owners just lost Aaron Rodger, their #1 draft pick, they will be looking to replace some big numbers and Foles could be a good option.
  • Riley Cooper – Coming off a 3 touchdown game, many owners are chasing the TDs and that is not good. Cooper is a decent WR, but his fantasy value is very limited at this point and there is no guarantee so he would be a  high risk/reward player.
  • Tim Wright – He has been stepping up lately and looks like he has good chemistry with Locker, which is good news for him. Over the past 4 games, he has had 3 decent fantasy weeks and that could mean the beginning of a trend.  The good part to him is that he has a double option in Yahoo leagues as a WR/TE player. This means that you can play him as either a tight-end or wide-receiver.
  • Cardinals  Defense – They are getting a lot of adds this week because they are playing Houston in week 10 at home. It’s a good match-up and the Texans will make some mistakes.
  • Titans Defense – This is a great match-up playing the Jags at home. They will be one of the top defenses for this week and would be a must start for any owner.

Top fantasy waiver pickups to stash for playoffs.

  • Percy Harvin – There is no guarantee when he will return, but for teams in the playoffs, it looks very likely they he will be ready to go by that time and could be a very good option down the stretch.
  • Michael Crabtree – He was cleared to start practicing, but may not play for a couple of more weeks. There are some owners picking him up now in hopes of using him the last couple of weeks of the regular season, which look likely given his status. He could be ready to return to action by the end of the month.  He would be a top WR1 once he returns and could be the key to winning a fantasy championship.
  • EJ Manuel – It seems like a long-shot to use him at this point, but his week 13-15 match-ups include the Jags, Bucs, and Falcons. Talk about a playoff run.
  • Jay Cutler – He could return in week 10, but nonetheless it’s the later match-ups that look more appealing. He still has the Rams, Vikings, and Eagles coming up. He puts up a lot of points and has some great weapons to use. Not a bad option to grab now if he is out there.
