First and Five – Week 5 QB Starts and Sits

There are some interesting QB moves going on this week and there might be confusion over which quarterback to user or not in the week 5 match-ups.  With newly appointed QB Kyle Orton taking over for the Bills, some owners may think about grabbing him and playing him, but there may be some better options on the wire.  Taking a look at the match-ups for week 5, the following quarterbacks are the First and Five starts for owners to consider in their lineups.

Week 5 Fantasy Quarterbacks Starts

  • Ben Roethlisberger – He is facing the Jags who have given up the most fantasy points to quarterbacks this year.  They give up the most passing yards per game and the most passing touchdowns.  They average over 300 yards passing per game. He is the best QB start this week based on match-up.
  • Drew Stanton – He is getting another start due to the setback for Palmer. Drew will be facing the Broncos, who have allowed the second most passing yards per game.  They will most likely need to throw the ball a lot to keep up with Peyton so this is a great match-up for the guy who threw 244 yards and 2 touchdowns last week.
  • Austin Davis – He’s got the starting job for the rest of the year and has a great match-up this week playing against the Eagles.  They have given up the 2nd most passing touchdowns on the year and near the bottom in passing yards per game.   It could be a little tough playing on the road, but if the Eagles get up, which they should, he will need to pass the ball a lot to keep up.
  • Drew Brees – He’s going to have a great game.  Facing the Bucs, who have only 1 pick all year, and give up 2 passing touchdowns per game on average, means Drew should have no problem finding the receivers.  Bucs give up the 4th most passing yards per game, the 5th most touchdowns and the 3rd least interceptions.  Not to mention they have the highest completion percentage of any team.
  • Mike Glennon – He’s actually got a good match-up in the same game with Brees. The Saints really can’t stop the pass either are are currently 1 of only 2 teams that don’t have an interception yet.  The Saints are tied with the Bucs, giving up the 4th most passing yards, along with 7 touchdowns to 0 picks.  Mike should have a no problem getting yards and touchdowns in this game.

Week 5 Quarterback Sits

  • Kyle Orton – He is facing the Lions, who currently rank 2nd in the NFL against the pass. They give up only 185 yards and 1 passing touchdown per game on average. Don’t expect much from this first game. Not much better next week.
  • Teddy Bridgewater – If he plays, is up against the Packers on the road. They rank 5th in passing yards per game and 5th interceptions. With the home crowd behind them, they will get after the QB and make some plays.
  • Tom Brady – Good Ol’ Tom is not going to have it any easier this week facing the Bengals, who currently lead the NFL with only 2 passing touchdowns allowed all year. They rank #2 in interceptions and they rank #1 with the lowest completion percentage allowed. It will be very hard for Brady and the Pats to move the ball against this secondary.
  • Nick Foles – It might be hard to bench him, but this week’s match-up is not very favorable.  The Rams have allowed the fewest completions per game in the NFL this season.  They have given up the fewest passing yards this season and rank 4th in passing touchdowns only allowing 1 per game on average.  If the numbers hold up, Nick is not in for a good game and could see around 200 yards and 1 touchdown for the day.
