Hot Off The Wire – Week 7 Waiver Wire Pickups

With another week in the books, it looks like there are some hot tickets to claim on the waiver wire.  Many will be trying to grab the “Touchdown Express” Antone Smith as he continues to dazzle with the football and makes touchdowns nearly once every 4 touches.  There will be only 2 teams on bye in week 7, but it includes one of the most potent offenses in the league so there will be some holes to fill in fantasy lineups.  In addition, it’s good to look ahead as weeks 9 and 10 include over a third of the teams in the NFL. Going into week 7 these will be the Hot Off The Wire fantasy players that owners should be looking to consider.

Week 7 Top Waiver Pickups

Running Backs

  • Jerick McKinnon – Once again he showed what he can do and looks to have finally over taken Matt Asiata as the lead back in their offense. He started the game in week 6 and looks to be ready to make the jump to lead role. If that is the case, he would be a must add in many formats. He doesn’t have a great week 7 match-up but still worth owning at this point.
  • Antone Smith – For reasons already mentioned, this guy has touchdowns in 5 out of 6 games and includes 4 straight. He just gets into the end-zone.
  • Ronnie Hillman – Those that didn’t think he had it in him, they were wrong. Now people are looking to grab him up as quick as possible.
  • Theo Riddick – He came in as the Lions 4rd back-up and put decent numbers before getting injured.  It would be the number three back behind Bush and Bell, when both are healthy, but given their status, he might be a stash only at this point.
  • Fozzy Whittaker – Got the call with Stewart unable to suit up and found the end-zone. Stewart will most likely be back next week, and that backfield is not to be trusted. He would be a very low-end pickup and mostly for deeper leagues.

Wide Receivers

  • Cecil Shorts – The glass was half full this week as Short took the field and brought in 10 receptions for 103 yards. The fragile receiver was able to start and finish the game, which is a great sign, but it’s only a matter of time before he goes down. With 16 targets this week to lead the NFL, he could be used while he’s playing and might be a good grab and sell high candidate if he continues to perform well.
  • Andre Holmes – The young receiver has touchdowns in 2 straight games with 20 targets. He’s caught 9 of those for 195 yards and 3 touchdowns. He is clearly making plays and should be a good WR3 fantasy option.
  • Louis Murphy – Even with Evans back this week, Louis still had 9 targets and brought in 7 for 72 yards and 1 touchdown. He has scored in 2 straight games now and continues to be a go-to guy for Glennon. He is a decent WR3 or flex option.
  • Brandon LaFell – 2 touchdowns in 1 game will certainly wake up a lot of people. He had 4 catches in the game but was targeted 6 times and racked up 97 yards. He continues to be a consistent part of the offense as he’s been targeted 28 times over the past 4 weeks with 3 touchdowns. He would be good in deeper leagues and on bye weeks as a WR3.
  • Malcom Floyd – With the highest average yards per catch in the NFL, it’s easy to see why he’s a good fantasy option, but yet he’s not own in many leagues.  He’s going to get chances to score points as Rivers is getting the ball down the field.
  • Davante Adams – He is slowly getting more playing time and was able to get 6 catches for 77 yards in week 6 following a touchdown performance the week earlier.  In that offense it’s easy to rack up yards and touchdowns and seeing him get 8 targets in one game means that he’s catching the eye of Rodgers.

Tight Ends

  • Jordan Reed – He was finally able to suit again for the Redskins and racked up really great yards and receptions. He is certainly a top 10 TE option when he is healthy. If he is out there, he could be worth picking up if you don’t already have a top 5 option.
