Baseball Players Getting Hot – Getting Hurt

Fantasy Baseball is starting to heat up, which means some fantasy baseball players are getting hot, and other fantasy baseball players are getting hurt.  The following are some trends that could help your team as well as some players to watch out for in case you already have them.

Players Getting Hot:

• Juan Pierre – Has been tearing it up since Manny went out. He looks to be an every day producer while ManRam is gone so if he is available in your league and you need some speed and runs, this is a great pick-up now.
• Gary Sheffield – Is back to his old ways and hitting in the 4 hole. This means he will see lots of opportunities to get some runs batted in, as well as increased playing time.  If he is out on the wire, grab him up now and get him in your lineup.
• Kendry Morales – Looks like to be locked in at the moment and has lots of power. He doesn’t walk that much, but does hit with contact and can drive the ball.  With 4 dingers in May, and 3 in the past week, he looks to be a solid pick-up for deep leagues.

Players Getting Hurt:

• Rickie Weeks – This guy has been tearing it up lately, but it looks like he tore himself up as well. He has a bad wrist and the coaches are very concerned about it.  I’m not sure what the time table will be, but certainly watch out for this guy as he started cold, then got really hot, only to hurt himself. If they trend continues, he may start off cold again when he comes back. Update: He will be out for the season.
• Carlos Delgado – Getting old doesn’t help this slugger. He has been bothered by some injuries over the past two seasons and it looks to be continuing here. He was just starting to get hot but it looks like he is done for most of the season. I wouldn’t hold a spot for him as he may not return in the same form.
• Ricky Romero – Having only played 3 games in his whole career, makes this a some what sleeper drop, but having a 2 – 0 record, with a 1 ERA means that many were hoping to see him return soon, but it looks like this may be a longer deal that originally thought. I’ve already dropped him from my team and would suggest others to do so if you need the spot.
