6953Vintage stuff from John Lackey, who got his 100th ever win for the Angels. He allowed merely five hits and one ER, though it was based on an error by a teammate.

This provided the Angels with a much wanted win. The franchise had gone down in 2 of the first 3 contests in its meetings with the Athletics.

Lackey kept the Angels close vs. Brett Anderson until they were in the end able to register runs in groups. Four in the fifth, 5 in the eighth. This was more than enough to win the outing.

A pair of three-run HRs – one from Torii Hunter, the second on behalf of Kendry Morales – made up the majority of the runs scored. Morales continues to amaze all enthusiasts of the franchise.

“We’re not going to give them back,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia claimed. “We’ll take these.”

Not a lot to tell of. A solid day all around for the Angels – as far as defense goes, with respect to hitting and with respect to pitching. It took the team 5 innings to get to Brett Anderson, but that’s no surprise.

Anderson took a perfect outing into the seventh inning vs. the team in July. Bobby Abreu cleared the fences in the tenth inning then to bring the Angels a 1-0 win. Things were definitely somewhat different this occasion.

Morales made a newborn franchise record for RBI in August with thirty three, beating Bobby Bonds’ long-standing milestone of thirty one (August. 1977). … Lackey won his 100th game as a member of the Angels and is 65 wins behind leader Chuck Finley….

The Angels won their 40th comeback victory of the year…. Fourteen of the prior sixteen wins at Angel Stadium have been comeback wins.

The team now has a 77-52 record, at the front of the AL West division by five games. The Rangers are the team’s closest match. With solely a couple weeks of baseball left, the playoff chcances of the Angels are seeming quite respectable.
