LT to miss Chargers’ home opener against Ravens

Sproles SAN DIEGO (AP)—LaDainian Tomlinson(notes) has been ruled out of the San Diego Chargers’ home opener against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday due to a sprained ankle, just the second time the star running back will miss a start due to injury in his brilliant nine-year career.

If you haven’t already, try to get Sproles.  LT is an over rated has been.  Running backs his size don’t last too long in the big leagues.  If you drafted him like I did in round 1, just keep him in your back pocket for now.

Top 8 QBs for the NFL 2009 Fantasy Season

1084749_football1. Drew Brees: Brees was simply the best quarterback in the NFL last year, and he’s a superstar. Especially when it comes to fantasy leagues. Brees had a handful of monster games last season, and it’s safe to say that this season should be no different. Bonus points when you factor in Colston’s return.

2. Tom Brady: I’d be tempted to put him at #1, but his rustiness could be an issue at the beginning of the season and it remains to be seen how well he’s recovered from injury. He’s looked strong in the preseason, but that’s no sure thing. Now that we’ve thrown out the risk factors, Brady is a fantasy stud and could easily be the best in football. Read more…

Avoid Adrian Peterson, Take Michael Turner

apphoto If you are lucky enough to get the coveted first spot in your fantasy football league this year, take Turner. I know what you’re thinking. What about Adrian Peterson? He is sick. The guy is freakier than Paula Abdul in room full of young male singers. He’s got explosion, speed, and the necessary power to punch it in at the goal line. He is a stud. Read more…

If Only Darren Sproles Could Start, Darren Sproles Fantasy Advice

Filed under: Commish, Football, Pickups, Projections, Trends by: commish

This hasn’t been one of the better seasons for the Chargers, but they are getting some good play from Darren Sproles.  With LT being bothered by a toe injury this year, Sproles has gotten more playing time and a chance to showcase his skills for the NFL.  Like Turner who ran in the shadow of LT for many years and is now having a breakout season starting for Atlanta, Sproles could also be the one to provide a huge boost to a running game if given the opportunity to produce on a regular basis.  Read more…

Filed under: Commish, Football, General Sports, Pickups, Trends by: commish

It appears from reports on various sources that Plaxico Burress has been shot in the leg, and some reports are saying that in fact he shot himself by accident.  He was already not going to play this week, but this should mean that he will be out for quit some time.  Steve Smith is already picked up in most leagues but if not, he would be the first choice, along with Dominic Hixon. Both should see their roles and points continue to increase with Burress being out and Toomer being covered by the top corners. Read more…

Fantasy Football Quarterback Pickups: Old vs. New

Filed under: FantasyGirl, Football, Pickups, Trends by: fantasygirl

Fantasy QuarterbacksIf you want a good tip about Fantasy Football Quarterback Pickups, remember this: never draft a rookie QB as your starter.  Do you remember how excited everyone was about Arizona QB Matt Leinart, Tennessee QB Vince Young, Oakland QB Jamarcus Russel, and even Cleveland QB Brady Quinn?  Fantasy football managers couldn’t wait to draft them into their line-ups.  Big mistake.

Typically, NFL coaches make rookies sit on the bench a few years to study the veteran QB before he’s ever able to start a game.  If rookies do get lucky enough to start, it’s usually as a fill-in for an injured veteran.  The great QBs of today like New England QB Tom Brady, Dallas QB Tony Romo, Denver QB Jay Cutler, San Diego QB Philip Rivers, and New Orleans QB Drew Brees, all watched, studied, and absorbed from the bench before they were able to start and finish a game with notable success.  In the last few years, it seems as if more coaches are taking their chances with rookie quarterbacks.
