Twins | Still being cautious with Justin Morneau

Posted by Commish On August - 30 - 2010

The Minnesota Twins continue to be cautious with 1B Justin Morneau (concussion) and consistently say there is no timetable for his return, according to MLB.com’s Kelly Thesier. The team wants to continue to let Morneau work out at his own pace. “We all know the Morneau situation,” manager Ron Gardenhire said. “We’re not making plans either way. We’re letting Morneau do his thing. He’s doing his workouts. And when they tell me we think we’re moving forward, then you start looking at what you need to do.” – More Sports

Indians | Matt LaPorta’s hip injury not serious

Posted by Commish On August - 30 - 2010

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Indians 1B Matt LaPorta (hip) is listed as day-to-day after straining his left hip Sunday, Aug. 29, reports the Akron Beacon Journal’s Sheldon Ocker. ”I did it when I landed, taking the first pitch,” he said. ”I felt something kind of pop. I don’t think it’s anything major.” LaPorta had surgery on the same hip last year, but manager Manny Acta doesn’t believe it’s related to the surgery. ”This is muscular, on the outside,” Acta said. ”So I don’t think it’s related to the surgery.” LaPorta said there could be a little correlation between this injury and last year’s surgery in that his hip is weaker. – More Sports

But will he be motivated enough to give the White Sox the kind of offensive spark he did when he arrived in L.A. two years ago (.396, 17 HR, 53 RBI in 53 games)? – More Sports

Hawpe can give Rays some extra pop at DH spot

Posted by Commish On August - 27 - 2010

Although Brad Hawpe won’t receive the same fanfare that say … Manny Ramirez would, he could still be an important addition for the Tampa Bay Rays down the stretch. The Rays have signed Hawpe to a minor league deal and could activate him by Tuesday — just in time to make him eligible for the postseason. – More Sports
