Boston Red Sox C Victor Martinez (thumb) will not need surgery on his left thumb, but the team will place him on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, June 29, reports The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham, citing sources. If the team places Martinez on the disabled list, he would miss only 11 games over a span of 17 days before the Red Sox play the Texas Rangers after the All-Star break. The team is expected to call up C Gustavo Molina from Triple-A Pawtucket.
