In an age of fantasy football cheet sheets, Sports TV advice, Internet advice, smart phones apps, are there really any real “sleepers” in fantasy football drafts? I was in a draft a couple of nights ago and it seemed everyone knew who to draft and why.  The real surprise came when everyone realized that the team managers drafting were in the “know” and started drafting their “sleepers” early.  I guess the real question is how early should some of these guys go? Are they worth the risk? I guess we’ll have to find out. Last season, I drafted Eagles RB McCoy pretty early and it seemed to pay off. At the time, he was just a back-up, so I guess I considered him kind of a sleeper. However, this season, I’m having trouble considering any fantasy pick a real “sleeper”. At this point, I tend to think in terms of “risks” and “probables”.

Some fantasy probable picks that I think will pan out this year are RB C.J. Spiller, TE Jermichael Finely, QB Kevin Kolb,  and for leagues that do return yards, WR Jacoby Jones. These are some fantasy picks that I would definitely draft higher than what they’re ranking dictates.

Some fantasy picks that I think are risky are RB Ryan Mattews (how much sharing time will he share with Sproles who has proven himself). Any RB in Denver (do I really need to even explain myself here?).  Also, RB Ronnie Brown (he surprised me last year, but he also ended up getting injured, can he last another full season?).  Actually, let me just put this out there, to me any RB older than 29 is a risk. I tend to think that most RBs are at their best from 23 – 27.

Who do you think are this year’s fantasy football sleepers?

Is Albert Pujols the best hitter that we’ve ever known? That is a question that has been asked hundreds of times, and the debate doesn’t look like it’s going to go away any time soon.

To save time and even more confusion, I’m only going to do comparisons with players from the last three decades.

Today’s baseball bears little resemblance to the game that was played in past eras, so a comparison between Albert Pujols and Willie Mays for example just doesn’t stand up. Only players from the modern game could be compared.

As the game has evolved so much, we can’t tell how well players from the past would have played today, and vice versa. We can consider Pujols to be the batsman of our times on his merits alone. Read the rest of this entry »

While many big names can give great stats, there are smaller names who don’t stand out in any one category, but give a nice balance of stats across the board. Baseball is starting to heat up and that means fantasy baseball is heating up as well.  The following are the fantasy baseball week 3 hot players.  There are some big surprises to start the season in terms of overall teams.  It’s nice to see the Royals sitting at the top of their division along with the Blue Jays in a tie for first with the Red Sox.  Both teams are starting off really hot and they are showing some grit in terms of trying to maintain it.  It will be great to see if they can  hold on to their energy level and are able to sustain this type of effort for the entire season.  Read the rest of this entry »

As the season comes to an end, many of us evaluate our players to see how they’ve helped us or failed us.  If your duds are lessening your chances for a playoff run, then take a look at a couple of fantasy sleepers probably out on the wire: Kansas City QB Tyler Thigpen and Kansas City WR2 Mark Bradley.
