Fantasy baseball in 2010 has a couple of surprises to start the season and a couple of early season busts that are making owners contemplate dropping them for available starters. Although this may be a good thing for some teams, it’s not always the best case of the long run. Ed Wade, previously with the Phillies, is known to be a master at assembling a strong bullpen. Wade, presently GM for the Astros, has attempted to do the same in Houston. As soon as he took on the job, Houston Astros relievers like Brad Lidge and Chad Qualls were shipped out, and guys like Valverde, Brocail, LaTroy Hawkins and others came in.

Wade’s philosophy is pretty cut and dry. A bullpen is critical to a team’s success, but you never know who may fizzle out or go down to injury, so it’s important that your bullpen is deep and diverse. While this comes at an extra cost, it usually shields the team from adversity. Looking at this season, though, it seems like the payroll in Houston for the bullpen is quite high. Kellen Winslow. eventually, the move to Tampa Bay to play with the Buccaneers ought to rejuvenate his career.  In 2009, with so a bunch of uncertainty at the QB role, it’s probably sound to assume he won’t be generating stats similar to ’07. However, he ought to be a viable target for Byron Leftwich, in addition to a safety net for Josh Freeman (as soon as he’s prepared), so his catch total may be decent.

SAN DIEGO (AP)—LaDainian Tomlinson(notes) has been ruled out of the San Diego Chargers’ home opener against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday due to a sprained ankle, just the second time the star running back will miss a start due to injury in his brilliant nine-year career.

If you haven’t already, try to get Sproles.  LT is an over rated has been.  Running backs his size don’t last too long in the big leagues.  If you drafted him like I did in round 1, just keep him in your back pocket for now.

1. Drew Brees: Brees was simply the best quarterback in the NFL last year, and he’s a superstar. Especially when it comes to fantasy leagues. Brees had a handful of monster games last season, and it’s safe to say that this season should be no different. Bonus points when you factor in Colston’s return.

2. Tom Brady: I’d be tempted to put him at #1, but his rustiness could be an issue at the beginning of the season and it remains to be seen how well he’s recovered from injury. He’s looked strong in the preseason, but that’s no sure thing. Now that we’ve thrown out the risk factors, Brady is a fantasy stud and could easily be the best in football.
