Where did the fantasy football sleepers go?

Posted by fantasygirl On September - 6 - 2010

In an age of fantasy football cheet sheets, Sports TV advice, Internet advice, smart phones apps, are there really any real “sleepers” in fantasy football drafts? I was in a draft a couple of nights ago and it seemed everyone knew who to draft and why.  The real surprise came when everyone realized that the team managers drafting were in the “know” and started drafting their “sleepers” early.  I guess the real question is how early should some of these guys go? Are they worth the risk? I guess we’ll have to find out. Last season, I drafted Eagles RB McCoy pretty early and it seemed to pay off. At the time, he was just a back-up, so I guess I considered him kind of a sleeper. However, this season, I’m having trouble considering any fantasy pick a real “sleeper”. At this point, I tend to think in terms of “risks” and “probables”.

Some fantasy probable picks that I think will pan out this year are RB C.J. Spiller, TE Jermichael Finely, QB Kevin Kolb,  and for leagues that do return yards, WR Jacoby Jones. These are some fantasy picks that I would definitely draft higher than what they’re ranking dictates.

Some fantasy picks that I think are risky are RB Ryan Mattews (how much sharing time will he share with Sproles who has proven himself). Any RB in Denver (do I really need to even explain myself here?).  Also, RB Ronnie Brown (he surprised me last year, but he also ended up getting injured, can he last another full season?).  Actually, let me just put this out there, to me any RB older than 29 is a risk. I tend to think that most RBs are at their best from 23 – 27.

Who do you think are this year’s fantasy football sleepers?

Fantasy Baseball Surprises and Off Starters

Posted by Commish On April - 25 - 2010

Fantasy baseball in 2010 has a couple of surprises to start the season and a couple of early season busts that are making owners contemplate dropping them for available starters. Although this may be a good thing for some teams, it’s not always the best case of the long run. Baseball is a sport of failure, and it owners have to be patient with their teams.  Knowing that players will have hot and cold streaks from time to time, it’s best not to put to much on early season starts and if your player is on these list it doesn’t indicate that the season may continue in the same fashion. A Glance At The Amazing Statistics Of Albert Pujols

Posted by Commish On April - 22 - 2010

A Glance At The Amazing Statistics Of Albert Pujols photoIs Albert Pujols the best hitter that we’ve ever known? That is a question that has been asked hundreds of times, and the debate doesn’t look like it’s going to go away any time soon.

To save time and even more confusion, I’m only going to do comparisons with players from the last three decades.

Today’s baseball bears little resemblance to the game that was played in past eras, so a comparison between Albert Pujols and Willie Mays for example just doesn’t stand up. Only players from the modern game could be compared.

As the game has evolved so much, we can’t tell how well players from the past would have played today, and vice versa. We can consider Pujols to be the batsman of our times on his merits alone. Read the rest of this entry »

The Most Likely Fantasy Football Busts at Tight End

Posted by Commish On October - 12 - 2009

The Most Likely Fantasy Football Busts at Tight End photoKellen Winslow. eventually, the move to Tampa Bay to play with the Buccaneers ought to rejuvenate his career.  In 2009, with so a bunch of uncertainty at the QB role, it’s probably sound to assume he won’t be generating stats similar to ’07. However, he ought to be a viable target for Byron Leftwich, in addition to a safety net for Josh Freeman (as soon as he’s prepared), so his catch total may be decent.

The following are more Fantasy Football Tight Ends that could be busts for fantasy football owners. Read the rest of this entry »

Top 8 QBs for the NFL 2009 Fantasy Season

Posted by Commish On September - 8 - 2009

Top 8 QBs for the NFL 2009 Fantasy Season photo1. Drew Brees: Brees was simply the best quarterback in the NFL last year, and he’s a superstar. Especially when it comes to fantasy leagues. Brees had a handful of monster games last season, and it’s safe to say that this season should be no different. Bonus points when you factor in Colston’s return.

2. Tom Brady: I’d be tempted to put him at #1, but his rustiness could be an issue at the beginning of the season and it remains to be seen how well he’s recovered from injury. He’s looked strong in the preseason, but that’s no sure thing. Now that we’ve thrown out the risk factors, Brady is a fantasy stud and could easily be the best in football. John Lackey Wins 100th Baseball Game as an Angel

Posted by Commish On September - 8 - 2009

John Lackey Wins 100th Baseball Game as an Angel photoVintage stuff from John Lackey, who got his 100th ever win for the Angels. He allowed merely five hits and one ER, though it was based on an error by a teammate.

This provided the Angels with a much wanted win. The franchise had gone down in 2 of the first 3 contests in its meetings with the Athletics. Read the rest of this entry »

Six Underrated Fantasy Baseball Players

Posted by Commish On August - 24 - 2009

Six Underrated Fantasy Baseball Players photoAll too often in fantasy baseball, people go after the big names. While many big names can give great stats, there are smaller names who don’t stand out in any one category, but give a nice balance of stats across the board. These stats are often as valuable (if not more) as the stats put up by bigger names. Let’s look at some of these players. Read the rest of this entry »

Avoid Adrian Peterson, Take Michael Turner

Posted by Commish On August - 23 - 2009

Avoid Adrian Peterson, Take Michael Turner photo If you are lucky enough to get the coveted first spot in your fantasy football league this year, take Turner. I know what you’re thinking. What about Adrian Peterson? He is sick. The guy is freakier than Paula Abdul in room full of young male singers. He’s got explosion, speed, and the necessary power to punch it in at the goal line. He is a stud. Read the rest of this entry »

Manny’s Back Into Action

Posted by Commish On July - 9 - 2009

Mannys Back Into Action photoManny’s back into action.  The most well-known player to ever get suspended during a season for 50 games because of failing a league required drug test is not back on the field and pretty much picking up where he left off. If there was ever any doubt about Manny Ramirez’s hitting skills, he is certainly putting the critics to rest with his play since returning to action Read the rest of this entry »

Fantasy Baseball Surprises

Posted by Commish On June - 12 - 2009

Fantasy Baseball Surprises photoWith the half way point quickly approaching, let’s take a look at some surprises so far this year, as well as some surprises to look out for.  Fantasy baseball surprises come up all the time as players lose their jobs, new players gain jobs, and some players just get hot and cold.  Adjustments have to be made to teams to stay competitive, but don’t react to hasty to every little report or injury to your team.  A fantasy team’s chemistry is just as important with fantasy baseball as it is in the real world. There are times when owners just have to be confident that their players will turn it around and make the necessary moves to get back to where they are expected, but there are always surprises.
